Radiesse explained: contouring, hyperdilution and why it is not a normal filler

Équipe médicale Nuance Clinic

Radiesse behaves like a filler on the day and like a collagen stimulator over the following months. This guide covers the difference between standard, diluted and hyperdilute protocols, which areas suit it, and the safety trade-off of a non-reversible product.

En bref

  • Immediate volume plus months of collagen stimulation.
  • Hyperdilute protocols tighten neck, décolleté, arms and knees.
  • Never used in lips; never placed superficially.
  • Not reversible — placement accuracy is critical.

De quoi s’agit-il

  • Microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in a gel carrier. The gel provides immediate volume; the microspheres act as a scaffold that fibroblasts populate with new collagen before the particles are metabolised.
  • It is a biostimulator, which makes it fundamentally different from hyaluronic acid filler — and it is not dissolvable.

À qui cela s’adresse

  • Jawline and chin definition, temple and mid-face support
  • Skin laxity of the neck, décolleté, upper arms, abdomen and knees (hyperdilute technique)
  • Hand rejuvenation
  • Not suitable in the lips, and not for patients who want a reversible treatment

Produits utilisés

Radiesse and Radiesse+ (Merz) — CE/FDA-approved, used undiluted, diluted or hyperdiluted as indicated

Déroulé du traitement

  • Assessment and mapping; the dilution protocol is chosen for the goal.
  • Cannula placement in most areas for safety and comfort.
  • Massage and shaping after injection, following a strict protocol.

Sécurité

  • Not reversible with hyaluronidase — placement accuracy matters more than with hyaluronic acid.
  • Never injected into the lips or superficially in thin skin, where nodules can form.
  • Cannula technique is preferred in vascular zones.

Avant le rendez-vous

Avoid blood thinners where medically allowed; no active skin infection at the site.

Soins après le traitement

  • Massage exactly as instructed — this is important for a smooth result.
  • No gym, sauna or facial treatments for 48 hours.
  • Expect firmness that settles over the first week.

Résultats et durée

  • Immediate volume, then a dip as the carrier gel resorbs, then progressive collagen improvement from week 4 to month 3.
  • Typical duration 12–18 months, with skin quality benefits persisting longer.

Effets indésirables et risques possibles

Swelling, bruising, tenderness, nodules if placed too superficially, rare vascular events.

Suivi

Review at 6–8 weeks to assess collagen response and decide on a second session.

Questions sur ce traitement

Is Radiesse better than hyaluronic acid filler?

It is different. Radiesse gives structure and collagen stimulation but cannot be dissolved. Hyaluronic acid is more forgiving and reversible. The choice depends on the area and your risk preference.

What is hyperdilute Radiesse?

The product is diluted with saline and lidocaine and spread in a thin layer to stimulate collagen and tighten skin rather than add volume — ideal for neck, décolleté and arms.

Can it be reversed?

No. That is why we use it only where the indication and the plan are clear.
